Fitger’s Brewhouse is tapping into its 28th “Cherry Batch” Thursday evening.
The once-a-year beer celebrates when Fitger’s Brewhouse opened.
Head Bartender Dylan Ice said it “flies off the shelves.”
“It’s very special. We put over 1,000 pounds of cherries in, both Montmorency, which is kind of like a tart cherry, and also we use a Balaton, which is a little bit sweeter,” Ice said.
The beer’s flavor, whether it’s more tart or more sweet, depends on the crop year. This year, Fitger’s cherries came from Grand Traverse County, Mich.
Artist Aaron Kloss painted the Cherry Batch design on the bottles.
The release party is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the restaurant in the Fitger’s complex. Local musician Ditchbird will play. It’s a free event.
On Friday, the Cherry Batch will also be available at Burrito Union and the Rathskeller.
