The beauty of the Mesabi Trail on the Tomassoni Tour
The Mesabi Trail is where bikers go for the Tomassoni Tour, and we hear what makes it special.
The Mesabi Trail is 150 miles long stretching from Grand Rapids to Ely. The paved asphalt trail passes through 28 Iron Range communities.
Ardy Nurmi-Wilberg, a board member for the Tomassoni Tour, describes it as a trail like none other, “Most of riders here have never been on it, and I mean, they’re blown away.”
“You cut through the wood to get from here to there. I like to say it has a lot of topography.”
Because of the hills, e-bikes are welcomed on the Tomassoni Tour. Scott Neustel, the owner of Ski Hut, explains to The Lift, “The beauty of ebikes is that it allows people to ride further and to ride with more ease. As we age, that’s not such a bad thing.”
Baihly learned how to ride a bike to participate in the Tomassoni Tour, an e-bike helped her finish her 27 miles.
