Why the Twin Ports is the place to go for watching bird migrations
During the months of May and April the Northland tends to see a high volume of birds migrating.
And the Twin Ports is no stranger to some pretty interesting species spending time in our skies and trees. Not too long ago pelicans were spotted in Chambers Grove. The Twin Ports area does seem to host many bird species compared to other areas.
Lake Superior continues to be the biggest factor for that reason. For a lot of birds they don’t like to be spending a lot of time over large bodies of water. This is because of being open to predators, not a space to land, and a lack of food. So the Lake acts as a barrier.
Birds will take refuge on the edge of the lake and then move across the shore.
Birders say to get out while you can, right now is the time to check out this natural phenomenon.
