Women in Business: What We Saw Collaborative

A new collaborative space specifically designed for women business owners is open in West Duluth.

A new collaborative space specifically designed for women business owners is open in West Duluth.

The What We Saw Collaborative houses Michaela Rai’s What We Saw photography studio, the Kindled Co-working space, Duluth Moms headquarters, and an office for Moss Goddess Garden Studio.

“I’ve watched a lot of women business owners try to scale, myself included, like how do I afford the overhead of a space? A lot of people are mothers. How do you make that work with a schedule? Can you make enough money to afford child care and a space?” Rai, who owns the building, said.

She wants the collaborative to be a hub of information.

“And it’s also a bridge for scaling,” she said. “So you can come and have your workshop here. You want to have an event with 30-40 people that you couldn’t have because you didn’t have a space, we’re a bridge to that.”

Andrea Jang of Duluth Moms fits right in. She started the Kindled Co-working space, which is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

“I just was so glad to get out of my house and to be with people and have real conversations,” Jang said, “and then find people who may have different strengths than I do and play off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses and really lift each other up and just lift each other’s businesses.”

The What We Saw Collaborative is on the corner of 59th Ave. W and Grand Ave. in Duluth.
