U.S. Steel gets favorable ruling about proposed deal with Nippon

Reaction from both sides after a decision from the Board of Arbitration about the proposed merger between U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel, which is a Japanese company.

The United Steelworkers had filed grievances over what they believe are violations to their Basic Labor Agreement.

The Board ruled that U.S. Steel satisfied the successorship obligations in the BLA. This comes after a hearing in August.

A statement from the USW said they are disappointed, but this does nothing to change their opposition to the deal.

U.S. Steel‘s CEO, David Burritt, said in a statement, “With the arbitration process behind us, we look forward to moving ahead with our pending transaction with Nippon.”

President Joe Biden has said he would block the merger.

U.S. Steel owns Minntac and Keetac. Headquarters are in Pittsburgh.
