Esko’s Koi Perich named top 5 finalist for collegiate Freshman of the Year Award
Esko native Koi Perich is now one step closer to taking home yet another collegiate football award. The Minnesota Gopher safety was named a top five finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award on Wednesday.
This comes after he earned a First-Team All Big Ten nod earlier this week.
As a true-freshman, Perich has 42 total tackles and five interceptions. He also has an electric return game, with 19 punt returns for 173 yards, and 15 kickoff returns for 298 yards.
Perich is up against star freshmen from Texas (Collin Simmons), Ohio State (Jeremiah Smith), South Carolina (Dylan Stewart), and Alabama (Ryan Williams). The winner will be announced at the end of December at the Maxwell Football Club Awards.
