Prep Lacrosse: CEC & Duluth Marshall boys win inaugural openers, Duluth Marshall girls shutout Superior
Four Northland prep lacrosse teams ushered in new eras on Thursday. Both the Superior boys and girls lacrosse teams hosted their inaugural home openers, the Duluth Marshall boys visited the Spartans for their first-ever game, and the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hosted Rocori for their program’s first match.
The Duluth Marshall boys would defeat Superior 7-4 earning their program’s first-ever varsity win. The Hilltoppers did field a JV squad in 2023. Kyler Black scored a pair of early goals for the Hilltoppers, while captain Tyler Olson scored the first goal for the Spartans.
On the girls side, Duluth Marshall would earn the 7-0 shutout victory over Superior. Hilltopper junior Nina Thorson scored three goals to record her first career lacrosse hat-trick.
In Cloquet, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys lacrosse team earned a historic first-ever win over Rocori 10-7. Gino Bertogliat scored the Lumberjacks’ very first goal, while Michael Cadotte recorded a hat-trick.
