On Saturday, the #14 UMD Men’s hockey team traveled to Bemidji State for their first road test of the year, and what a test it was.
The Bulldogs needed all 60 minutes and then some, as they beat Bemidji State in overtime, 5-4.
The Bulldogs played catchup starting in the second period, as they were down 2-0 going into the first intermission.
After that though, they turned things around, as both Riley Bodnarchuk and Ben Steeves scored to even up the score at 2-2.
Both teams then doubled their goal total, as Kyle Bettens and Quinn Olson scored back to back to make it four unanswered goals from UMD.
Bemidji would rebound though, scoring two of their own, and to overtime the two teams went, but not for long.
UMD’s Cole Spicer scored just 27 seconds into overtime, giving the Bulldogs the win, their third of the season.
UMD plays on the road again Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28 against Cornell at 6 p.m.
