2 UMD Hockey Alumni sign new deals, 3 incoming players invited to nationals
UMD men’s hockey saw members of current and former in the spotlight this week as 2 alumni signed new professional deals and 3 current members were invited to this year’s World Junior Summer Showcase.
Scott Perunovich signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. The deal is worth $1.15 million. Perunovich worked as a free agent last season and played as a defenseman for St. Louis, earning 17 assists in 54 games.
Darian Gotz of Hermantown signed on with the Aalborg Pirates – a professional team in Denmark. Gotz earned the NCHC Sportsmanship award for the 2023-2024 season, he was the first Bulldog to earn the award since 2020. Gotz graduated in 2024 after four years with the Bulldogs, and will be joined in Denmark by his brother Eric – who played for Michigan Tech.
UMD freshmen Adam Kleber, Jason Shaugabay, and Hermantown’s Max Plante have all earned invites to the World Junior Summer Showcase.
46 players from around the country were invited for the showcase. Camp will begin July 26 in Plymouth, Michigan and will run through August 3rd. The showcase will allow for teams to begin evaluations for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa from December 26th through January 5th.
