#4 UMD women’s hockey skates to tie with #8 St. Cloud State, wins shootout

A heavyweight battle between #4 UMD women’s hockey and #8 St. Cloud State came down to the wire Friday afternoon in St. Cloud. Neither team could quite get the edge, as the Bulldogs and Huskies tied 1-1, with UMD winning the shootout.

The Bulldogs played from behind for a majority of the game, giving up a goal just over five minutes into the first period. However, Olivia Mobley scored the equalizer in the third period, sending the game to a 1-1 tie in overtime.

In overtime, neither team found the back of the net, forcing the game to a shootout. There, Olivia Mobley found the back of the net for the second time, while Ève Gascon made three clutch saves to secure the Bulldogs shootout victory. Gascon would finish the game with 22 saves, helping UMD earn the extra WCHA point.

UMD and St. Cloud State meet up again Saturday, with a 1 p.m. puck drop.
