#6 UMD women’s hockey upends #2 Wisconsin for road upset
To say the #6 UMD women’s hockey teams performance on Sunday in Madison, Wisconsin was impressive would be an understatement.
The Bulldogs, after falling to the Badgers on Saturday, bounced back and upset the #2 team in the country for the second straight week, winning 3-2.
The reigning WCHA Goaltender of the Week, Hailey MacLeod, looks poised to win the award again this week with Sunday’s performance alone, registering 42 saves and allowing just two.
There was no scoring in the game until the third period, where the teams combined for five goals.
UMD struck first, as Clara Van Wieren found the back of the net just over a minute into the third period. Later, Mannon McMahon would add a goal of her own.
After the Badgers cut the lead down to just one, Jenna Lawry finished the final blow, scoring to put the game away.
The Bulldogs head to St. Cloud next week to take on the Huskies for a Friday-Saturday series.
