#7 UMD women’s hockey surrenders three unanswered, fall in shocker to #2 Wisconsin
When the #7 UMD women’s hockey team extended their lead to 4-1 over #2 Wisconsin, Bulldog faithful thought they had wrapped up a big WCHA win.
Fast forward to the end of the game, and the Badgers stormed back to beat the Bulldogs on home ice, 5-4.
Despite being outshot for the majority of the game, the Bulldogs held onto a 1-0 first period lead thanks to Reece Hunt finding the back of the net.
In the second period, the Bulldogs would explode for three goals, with one from Nina Jobst-Smith, the second sent in by Jobst-Smith but finished by Danielle Burgen, and the third by Clara Van Wieren to take a 4-1 lead.
In the third period, the Badgers tied the game up all within two and a half minutes of each of their goals, and ultimately scored the game winning fifth goal with just over a minute and a half left.
The Bulldogs will need to have a short memory and try to bounce back against Minnesota State Mankato on Friday.
