#8 UMD women’s hockey enters final stretch of regular season behind two star goaltenders
The 8th ranked UMD women’s hockey team is entering the final stretch of their regular season, with three series remaining, one being this weekend at St. Thomas.
A big key to their success has been their double-threats in the net – freshman Ève Gascon and sophomore Hailey MacLeod.
“It definitely helps to make sure that you’re always preparing,” said MacLeod. “You’re not taking things for granted. You’re always working for what you’re wanting to get to, and for me, it’s just about staying in the present. Being where my feet are, being able to focus on the next shot, coming in and not dwelling on things that happened in the past. That’s huge, especially mentally.”
On Wednesday, both Gascon and MacLeod were named semifinalists for the Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year award. They’re now two of 11 players left, and the only underclassmen on the list.
The winner will be announced during the Frozen Four in March.
