Northlanders hear names called in 2024 USHL Draft
The United States Hockey League (USHL), the top junior league in the country, held their 2024 draft this week.
In Phase I on Monday three Northlanders heard their names called.
- Duluth Marshall goaltender Kaenan Smith was taken by Sioux Falls 51st overall in the fourth round.
- Hibbing/Chisholm defenseman Jackson Strukel was selected by Tri-City in Nebraska in the sixth round at 82nd overall.
- Grand Rapids forward Nathan Garski was taken by Des Moines 93rd overall in the seventh round.
Phase II of the draft continued on Tuesday, and six Northlanders would be selected.
- Grand Rapids’ Justin Kerr went to Youngstown (Round 3, Pick 34).
- Proctor’s AJ Reyelts went to Cedar Rapids (Round 4, Pick 47).
- Hermantown’s Kade Kohanski went to Lincoln (Round 4, Pick 49).
- Grand Rapids’ Carter Casey went to Waterloo (Round 7, Pick 101).
- Hermantown’s River Freeman went to Waterloo (Round 11, Pick 101).
- Duluth’s Drew Nelson went to Lincoln (Round 13, Pick 186).
Additionally, the Dubuque Fighting Saints would select University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) forward Cole Spicer in Round 6 with Pick 90.
