After 17 seasons Grand Rapids’ Alex Goligoski retires from the NHL

After 17 years in the NHL, Grand Rapids native Alex Goligoski is retiring.

Throughout his nearly two decades in the league the defenseman skated for the Pittsburgh Penguins (2007-2011), Dallas Stars (2011-2016), and Arizona Coyotes (2016-2021), before joining the Minnesota Wild in 2021.

Goligoski, now 39 years old, won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009 when they beat the Detroit Red Wings in game seven 2-1.

Overall, the defenseman competed in 1,078 games, recording 87 goals and 388 assists. He was a +55 during his career, and averaged 21 minutes, 55 seconds of ice time.

Goligoski is also a former Minnesota Gopher, having skated three seasons there from 2004-2007. In two seasons with Grand Rapids (2002-2003, 2003-2004) Goligoski tallied 90 points.
