Andover advances to 7AA Championship with win over Grand Rapids

In game two of the Boys’ Hockey Section 7AA Semifinal, it’s the #3 Andover Huskies vs #2 Grand Rapids Thunderhawks.

The Thunderhawks came out shooting, scoring just 23 seconds into the game. Junior forward, Jameson Duell scored on an assist from Nathan Garski and Ethan Larson. This was Duell’s 18th goal of the season.

Andover tied the game at one with a goal from Senior, Luke Babineau assisted by Owen Lutgen and KJ Sauer at 13:45. The period ended at 1-1.

Each team scored twice in the second period. Grand Rapids was able to kill the power play at the start of the 2nd period, but Andover came out strong with a goal 6 minutes into the period from Sophomore William Thackeray. It’s his 6th goal of the season. Near five minutes later, Andover goes up 3-1 with an unassisted goal from Junior Casey Rodgers.

The Thunderhawks responded scoring two goals in quick succession. Senior, Luka Rohloff scored unassisted at 11:35 and Luke Palecek scored 20 seconds later on an assist from Caleb Gunderson and Rohloff. The score is 3-3 at the end of the 2nd period.

The Andover Huskies came out in the third period, scoring at 10:10 from Babineau slipped one past Grand Rapids goalie, Carter Casey. That is Babineau’s second goal of the game. He was assisted by Chase Nadeau and Ryan Bymark. Final score 4-3.

This will be Andovers 8th straight trip to the Section 7AA Championship game. The Huskies will face the Rock Ridge Wolverines on Thursday, February 27 on WDIO.
