Andover boy’s hockey crowned Section 7AA champions for fourth consecutive season

The No. 2 Andover boy’s hockey team was crowned Section 7AA champions on Thursday beating No. 1 Duluth East 7-2 at AMSOIL Arena.
With the win the Huskies are headed back to the state tournament at the Xcel Energy Center for the fourth season in a row.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first period as the Greyhounds led in the shot department 15-12.
The Huskies’ Gavyn Thoreson scored the game’s first goal just under two minutes into the second making it 1-0 Huskies.
Cooper Conway added his 44th goal of the season two minutes after, making it a 2-0 game. He rattled off four goals in the second period alone for the hat-trick.
Grant Winkler for Duluth East made it a 3-1 game, before the second period ended in a Huskies 5-1 lead.
Cayden Casey opened the scoring again for Andover making it 7-1, with East’s Henry Murray cutting the lead to 7-2.
The state tournament runs March 8th-11th at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. When brackets are finalized they can be found HERE.
