Andover girl’s hockey proves too much for Grand Rapids/Greenway in Section 7AA championship
In the Section 7AA championship girl’s hockey matchup on Thursday evening, after a close first period, Andover would overtake Grand Rapids/Greenway 7-3 to take home the title.
Just 1:30 into the first period, Andover’s Amelia Mcquay would put the Huskies on the board 1-0. Five minutes later and just after their power play ends, Grand Rapids’ Mercury Bischoff would put puck to net to tie things up. Just over a minute later the Huskies would strike again with a shot right off the face-off from Courtney Little to return Andover’s lead 2-1. Grand Rapids would retaliate two minutes later with a tying shot from Kylie Debay. Andover would end the first period on top with a goal from Julia Gerdes on the power play.
Starting period two off 3-2, it would take over six minutes for Andover to score once again, this time Maya Engler would net the puck once again on the power play. Less than 30 seconds later, Andover’s Amelia Mcquay would sink the puck once again to put the Huskies up 5-2.
Andover would extend their lead once again six minutes into the third period with another shot from Courtney Little. Mercury Bischoff would return for another goal for the Lightning, bringing the score to 6-3. But Andover would solidify their win with another goal by Amelia McQuay. Andover takes home the Section 7AA championship title, winning 7-3.
