Andover wins Section 7AA championship after comeback season
No. 1 Rock Ridge and No. 3 Andover faced off for the first-place title in the Section 7AA boy’s hockey championship matchup Thursday night at AMSOIL Arena. After losing their first nine games of the season, Andover wins their fifth Section 7AA championship game in six seasons, defeating Rock Ridge 3-1.
Andover would begin the scoring with just over five minutes left in the first period with a goal from the corner by Camden Langfeld.
In the second period, Rock Ridge would respond with a shot from the circle that finds its target by Grady Dimberio. Andover would react quickly, regaining their lead with a goal from KJ Saur. With just seconds left in the period, Langfeld would extend Andover’s lead to 3-1 with another goal from the Huskies.
After a goalless third period, with 2 minutes and 45 seconds to go in the game, Rock Ridge pulls their goaltender to add an extra defender on the ice – they would return their goaltender with 45 seconds to go.
“I mean, if you would have told me back the start of the season that we’d be here, I’d believe you. You know, we had a great group right from the start and everyone believes in themselves. We all have trusted each other, and it’s just been amazing how we’ve grown throughout the season,” said Andover sophomore forward Camden Langfeld.
Rock Ridge ends their season with a 22-4-2 record, and takes home the Section 7AA runner-up title. Andover takes home the Section 7AA championship title and will compete in the State Class AA quarterfinals on March 6th.
