Annual ski race, lessons returning to Brule

A popular cross country ski race is returning to Brule, Wisconsin.

The annual River View Loppet has been scheduled for January 18, 2025 at the After Hours Ski Trails in the Brule River State Forest west of Brule, WI on Highway 2. Race options include a 28k skate, an 18k classic, and a 10k skate or classic. They begin at 10 a.m.

The Loppet’s 18k classic race is the fifth of 12 races in the Finn Sisu Tour de Finn ski series.

Registrations by mail may be made by printing the club’s brochure and mailing a check by Jan. 10 to Brule Valley Ski Club, 5223 S. Maple Dr., Poplar, WI 54864. Day-of-race in-person registrations are available for a $20 surcharge.

The Brule Valley Ski Club is also offering free cross country ski lessons this winter. Their Learn to Ski Days is January 4 at the After Hours Trail.

Adults and kids are welcome for their skate and classic classes. Check-in is at noon and lessons start at 12:30 p.m. Reservations for lessons must be made by January 2. To sign up for free lessons, contact Phil at 715-372-5004 or Bob at 218-348-5200.

Participants must bring their own skis, or arrange for rentals. The Brule Valley Ski Club stated they will provide Wisconsin trail passes for the day, and pay part of rental fees for persons requiring rental skis.
