Gabbie Hughes joined the exclusive 200 career point club over the weekend helping the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team sweep St. Thomas University. However success by other clubs has kept UMD in the number six spot on the latest USCHO poll.
The Bulldogs are now unbeaten in their last nine games.
Allowing only one goal from the Tommies in a 5-1 win Sunday, after a series opening 3-0 shutout Saturday, Ashton Bell earned her third Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defender of the Week honor this season. Tallying three assists the fifth year is now tied for the most points by a blueliner in the league.
Bell and UMD, now 19-6-1, return home this weekend for an intra-state rivalry series with the number three University of Minnesota Gophers (20-3-2) Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m.
