On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 27-25 for their first sweep over Green Bay since 2017.

Sam Darnold had a career day, passing for 377 yards and three touchdowns, each one to a different receiver: First to Jalen Nailor, then Jordan Addison, and finally Cam Akers.

The Vikings defense stifled Jordan Love and the Packers, as Love didn’t pass the 50 yard mark until midway through the third quarter. A first quarter fumble forced by the Vikings defense set the tone for the rest of the day.

“We looked at this game like a mano-a-mano game,” said Vikings safety Cam Bynum. “If you go back and watch the film, a lot of man coverage. That was really the whole mindset of coming into this game, that it’s the division game. We see each other so much. With the days of us tricking people, getting free, free blitzers of the quarterback, it’s over. So at the end of the day, we just have to win our match ups, and that’s what we did today.”

Despite a heavy comeback attempt by the Packers in which Emanuel Wilson and Malik Heath scored, the Vikings were able to put the game on ice around the two minute mark, as Duluth native C.J. Ham made a 13 yard catch for a first down.

“It’s really all about executing every single play, and on that play I was the guy to have a chance to execute, and it’s been great. No matter who is in the game, no matter who gets the opportunity, there’s full trust with everybody out there to get the job done. Sam has been phenomenal for us, which everyone can see, and it’s just been a blast.”

The Vikings will battle Detroit next Sunday on Sunday night football for rights to the #1 seed in the NFC, while the Packers will host the bears in their season finale.
