CEC heads to Section 7A Championship game, first time since 2008

After a short break for ice resurfacing and swapping fans, the first game of the Section 7A Boys’ Hockey Semifinals got underway at Amsoil Arena on Saturday. The #4 Proctor Rails took to the ice against the #1 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks got on the board first with a goal from Jordan Sewell just 1:08 into the period. This is the 9th goal of the season for the Freshman. He was assisted by Luca Gentilini and Brahm Snesrud.

Proctor tied it up with a goal from Sophomore Owen Baker at 11:28. It’s Baker’s second goal of the season. He was assisted by Avery Lee and Dylan Denzler. The score is tied at 1-1.

With less than two minutes remaining in the period, Karson Young scored for the Lumberjacks. This is the 4th goal for the captain. He was assisted by Austin Bryant and Shane Smith. The score at the end of one period of play is 2-1 Lumberjacks.

There was a lot of scoring early on in the second period, with Jordan Sewell scoring his second goal of the game, this one at 1:33 into the second period. He was assisted by Hudson Snesrud, the score is 3-1. Then 26 seconds later, teammate Grady Knutson scored on an assist from Young and H. Snesrud.

Proctor’s Austin Bryant snuck one past goalie Jacob Iallonardo at 3:01. It’s the 18th goal of the season for the Senior forward. He was assisted by Breckin Ross and Tanner Ross. It’s 4-2 Lumberjacks.

C-E-C scored two more goals in the second period. Knutson got his second goal of the game at 15:54 assisted by Cole Painovich and Bobby Thornton. Thronton scored his 19th goal of the season at 16:43 assisted by Niko Gentilini and Painovich.

Senior, Alessandro Johnson scored in the 3rd Period on an assist from Leo Luense and Preston Strang to make the score 7-2.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton advances to the Section 7A Championship game for the first time since 2008.
