Charles Martin becomes first-ever Yellowjacket to skate in AHL

For the first-time ever, a University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s hockey player has suited up and played in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Charles Martin, a 2023 UWS grad, made Yellowjacket history when he took to the ice with the Calgary Wranglers on New Year’s Day.

Martin was called up to the AHL from the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL where he’s been for three seasons, playing 81 total games. In 20 games this season he has registered eight assists.

The 26-year-old defender skated in 97 games at UWS from 2019-2023. In that time he racked up 37 points off six goals and 31 assists.
