Cherry baseball bests Lac qui Parle Valley in Class A quarterfinals

Making their first state tournament appearance since 2008, the No. 1 Cherry baseball team would top Lac qui Parle Valley 6-3 in the Class A quarterfinals Thursday.

The Tigers got off to a strong start scoring four runs in the first inning at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. Lac qui Parle Valley would score one run in the second and two in the third to come within in one. Cherry responded in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs to secure the 6-3.

The top-seeded Tigers improve to 21-3 and advance to face No. 4 Springfield. First pitch in their Class A state semifinal is set for Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Joe Faber Field. For the full Class A bracket, Click here.

This is only Cherry’s third state tournament appearance. They last went in 2008, and prior to that won the 1997 Class A title when current head coach Brian Kemp was on the team.
