Cloquet softball breaks out rally bats to down Grand Rapids in Section tournament opener
On Wednesday the fourth seeded Cloquet softball team rallied to defeat fifth seeded Grand Rapids 7-4 in round one of the Section 7AAA tournament at Braun Park.
The Lumberjacks trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, then scored all seven of their runs in that frame to secure the comeback win.
A Brooke Proulx double sparked the offensive onslaught for Cloquet. Her twin sister Blythe also recorded a double, as did Rylie Goranson and Allie Jones. Jones was the game’s winning pitcher, throwing a complete game, recording five strike outs.
Casey Cleveland led Grand Rapids offensively with two runs, two hits and one RBI.
Cloquet (12-8) advances to face top-seeded Rock Ridge (17-2) in the Section 7AAA quarterfinals Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Grand Rapids (9-10) will play eighth seeded Duluth Denfeld (2-17) at 1 p.m. All games will be played at Braun Park. For the full bracket, Click Here.
