Cromwell-Wright football upsets top-seeded Nevis to snag a spot at state

On Thursday the second seeded Cromwell-Wright football team would knock off top-seeded Nevis 20-14 to win the Section 5 9-Man championship. This marks the first time since 2018 the Cardinals will be state tournament bound.

Not only did the Cardinals upset the top seed in the bracket, Nevis was also undefeated and the defending Class 9-Man state champions.

Nevis scored first in the first quarter, then the Cardinals answered in the second with a 60 yard Dylan Nyberg touchdown. However, Nevis took back a 14-6 lead at halftime. Then in the third quarter Brenden Gronner scored to bring the Cardinals within two, and in the fourth Drew Nyberg got in for a TD to put Cromwell-Wright up 20-14.
