Cross Country section championships give Northland runners a chance at state
On Thursday the Northland hosted two section cross country championships. The Section 7A championship meet took place at Coleraine’s Eagle Ridge Golf Course, and the Section 7AA championship took place at the Hibbing Municipal Golf Course.
The top two teams and next six individuals advance to state.
In Section 7A Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin and Carlton girl’s, and Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin and South Ridge boy’s teams all qualified for state.
Chisholm’s Olivia Pascuzzi took first with a time of 19 minutes 2 seconds. For the boy’s, Chisholm’s Garrett Guida took first with a time of 17 minutes one second.
In Section 7AA Chisago Lakes and Hibbing girls’, and Cloquet and Grand Rapids boy’s teams qualified for state.
Hibbing’s Tara Hertling was the Northland’s top finisher, taking second with a time of 19 minutes 13 seconds, behind Chisago Lakes’ Annika Hall. Rock Ridge’s Jack Kendall won the boy’s 5k with a time of 16 minutes 21 seconds.
In Section 7AAA both Duluth East girl’s and boy’s teams will be racing in the state tournament, with the Greyhound girl’s team taking second and the boy’s team taking first. This meet was held in Anoka.
