CSS men’s basketball coach David Staniger steps down after 24 seasons
For the first time in nearly 2.5 decades, the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) will need to search for a new men’s basketball coach. It was announced on Thursday that David Staniger is stepping down from his post after 24 seasons with the Saints.
After becoming head coach in 2000, Staniger led CSS to four Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) postseason championships (2003-2004, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, and 2008-2009) to head to the national tournament. He was also named UMAC Coach of the Year three times in 2005-2006, 2015-2016 and 2020-2021.
Staniger holds the record for the most wins in program history, racking up 287 total for his 24 seasons.
The Chisholm native also played high school basketball for coaching legend Bob McDonald.
