CSS football ready to flip the script thanks to veteran leadership
The College of Saint Scholastica football team started their 2023 campaign with a 2-2 record, with a whole lot of season in front of them. However, six straight losses had them looking forward to this year, which is finally here, and these Saints are ready to go, especially the upperclassmen.
“We’re just trying to keep it similar, doing the same things and changing what we can, what didn’t work last year, trying to be players who can coach so the coaches can take that off their shoulders a little bit and they can kind of just do what they need to do, focus on the younger guys and make sure they’re getting their jobs done because they have trust in us that we’re getting our job done. I love our senior class, I could probably cry talking about them because these guys mean so much to me,” said senior wide receiver Ricky Weber.
For head coach Mike Heffernan, he too echoes the magnitude of the senior leadership towards his underclassmen.
“The underclassmen that have come in have really risen to the expectations,” said Heffernan. “It’s nice having upperclassmen that set the tone early and quickly. So it’s been really great, the guys have been working really hard.”
The Saints go marching on September 14th against Rockford university.
