The College of St. Scholastica’s (CSS) own Lily Beneke will be represent the Northland in the NCAA Division III Track and Field championships on Saturday.
A junior captain, Beneke won back-to-back conference titles, breaking the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) all-time and championship records in hammer throw with a 55.16 meter toss.
She’s making her second straight nationals appearance in the sport, despite only throwing shot put and discus in high school.
“Todd [Bouchie], my coach, he introduced me to hammer and I picked it up relatively quick. I’ve just fell in love with it, the technical standpoint. It was definitely unexpected to have this much success in the middle of my career here especially in hammer throw, I’m just kind of rolling along with it,” said Beneke.
Beneke is schedule to throw Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Central Time at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York. For live results, Click Here.
