CSS men’s basketball rolls past Northland in 90th meeting as programs
On Wednesday night the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) and Northland College men’s basketball teams tipped off their 90th meeting as programs, a rivalry that dates back to 1980. It would be the Saints coming out on top 84-49 in Duluth, to now lead the all-time series 68-22.
Three Saints hit double digits, as Aaron Keyal led the game with 15 points, South Shore native Koy Nelson posted 11, and Bryce Shoto added 10. Northland was led by Damian Cejka with 11 points, and Jahlani Thornton with 10.
This marked the Saints’ first win of the season. It’s also the first win as interim head coach for Christian Butler, who took over when David Staniger stepped down following 24 season at the helm of the program.
CSS (1-4) will next visit Bethany Lutheran College Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m. Northland (0-3) next visits St. Cloud State University Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
