CSS softball secures season’s first series sweep holding off Concordia Moorhead
On Wednesday, the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) softball team defeated Concordia College-Moorhead 6-0 in game one, then 5-4 in game two of their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader at Kenwood Field in Duluth. This marks the Saints’ first series sweep of the 2024 season.
In game one, the Saints were led by Payton Lang with one run, two hits and one RBI, and Samantha Paniagua with one run and three hits. Pitcher Ashley Matejka threw six strikeouts for CSS through seven innings, only allowing one hit.
In game two, CSS trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, when Kari Breuer knocked in Emma Bolin and Aislind Dail for the walk-off single. The Saints were led by Breuer with one run, two hits and two RBI, and Dail with two runs, two hits and one RBI. Haley Rosenthal threw three strikeouts for CSS through seven innings.
CSS (7-25) next visits the College of Saint Benedict for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
