CSS women's hockey can't rebound from late goal, falls to Saint Mary's in OT
Saint Mary’s University would score in the final two minutes of the third period to tie the game, then scored in overtime, handing the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) women’s hockey team a 2-1 loss at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday.
After a scoreless first period, CSS broke the ice scoring four minutes into the second with a goal by Allie Bussey. In the third period, with 1:19 left in the game, Celia Midtbo scored the game-tying goal for Saint Mary’s. Then, three minutes into OT, Hermantown native Reese Heitzman scored the game-winner for the Cardinals.
CSS goaltender Makenzie Cole made an astounding 60 saves.
The Saints drop to 7-14-1 on the season. Their series finale with the Cardinals is Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
