Denfeld girls soccer aiming to make state tournament with help of younger leaders
The Duluth Denfeld girls soccer team is coming off a 9-6-3 season, where they lost three of their last four games. Despite that, the goal remains the same for this year, which is to make it to the state tournament.
“I’ve been on varsity for over a few years now and that’s just been my goal, and I’m pretty sure it’s mostly everybody’s goal on the team. It’d be amazing to have that feeling as a team, going higher and exceeding our expectations of each other,” said Cayley Larsen, a senior goaltender.
The way to make it to the state tournament; some leaders need to step up for the Hunters, especially those that have been with the team for awhile.
“I’m really hoping for a playoff run again, said head coach Leah Hamm. “We got a lot of juniors this year who are kind of our core. So just looking for them to take leadership roles and really kind of take the team to the next level. I’m excited that they’ll be around for an extra year after that.”
The Hunters begin their season with four straight games on the road, including matchups against Grand Rapids and Two Harbors, then return for their home opener against Proctor on September 5th.
