Dixon breaks UMD strikeout record as Bulldogs best Minot State in NSIC opener

Junior pitcher Lauren Dixon broke the all-time Bulldogs strikeout record Wednesday helping the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) softball team shutout Minot State University 2-0 to open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) postseason tournament.
Dixon entered game one at the Rochester Youth Fastpitch Softball Complex one strikeout away from tying the record of 547, set by Kristin Danielson in 2010. The record breaking strikeout, number 548, came early as one of Dixon’s nine on the day.
