On Sunday American Legion Baseball’s Duluth Cubs Post 71 defeated Hermantown 21-0 then 15-5 to win Sub-State 10 and punch their ticket to the state tournament.
Boasting just an 11-11 record the Cubs, in their first season as a combination of Duluth East, Duluth Denfeld and Duluth Marshall High School players, made their potential known.
“It’s been pretty cool to see everybody come together as a community. I think that’s kind of the coolest part for me is just to kind of blur the lines of West and East Duluth, put everybody on one team and just see how successful they can be,” head coach Steve Plesha shared. “Watching them grow as baseball players, as young men has been awesome and obviously to move on down the state is awesome.”
The 97th annual Minnesota American Legion Baseball Division I State Tournament is July 27-30 in Rochester. For the tournament schedule, Click Here.
Additionally, in VFW baseball, Rock Ridge Post 1172 defeated Cloquet 12-0 Monday to win the 8th District Championship. Their state tournament is August 3-6 in St. Cloud.
