Duluth East softball holds off Northwestern in tight defensive battle
On Wednesday the Duluth East softball team handed Northwestern their first loss winning the defensive battle 2-1 at Ordean East Middle School.
Lauren Pozniak brought home Kylie Zwak for the 1-0 Greyhounds lead in the first. Northwestern responded when Ashlyn Sutherland hit Karly Nichols home to tie it 1-1 in the third.
Duluth East would bring one more runner home, scoring the first two runs against the Tigers this season. Northwestern had entered the game 2-0 having scored 14 runs and allowed zero.
Duluth East (1-1) is next scheduled to host Blaine Saturday at 2 p.m. Northwestern (2-1) is scheduled to host Spooner for their home opener Thursday at 5 p.m.
