Duluth Harbor Monsters talk launching new team on Saturday
On Saturday the inaugural Duluth Harbor Monsters season will kickoff. Thursday they held a preseason press conference to introduce the team.
Head coach Tony O’Neil and Proctor and Duluth product Terrance Wenzel shared what it means to build something new.
“Who I decided to recruit are guys that should have been at that (next) level, but maybe something happened as far as life that took them away from that. Having a kid or just not having the money to go to these tryouts on those trips. So, I wanted to give that second chance. I told the guys a lot, we’re kind of like the Second Chance U,” O’Neil said.
“It’s massively different, right? So I think that going from playing outside, or like flag or anything like that, compared to playing indoor in a much faster paced game, it’s a show. It’s much faster. It’s something that I think that the fans can enjoy a little bit more than they did with outside football. It’s a lot more entertaining, a lot more fan friendly,” Wenzel explained.
Their first-ever foe will be the Dallas Falcons. Kickoff is Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m. at the DECC. Tickets are going for $15-$40.
