Early bats lift Hermantown softball past Grand Rapids in Section 7AAA opener

The third seeded Hermantown softball team scored five runs in the second inning to fuel a 9-3 victory over sixth seeded Grand Rapids in round one of the Section 7AAA tournament Wednesday.
Hermantown advances to the winners bracket where they’ll face No. 2 North Branch in the quarterfinals Saturday at Braun Park in Cloquet. First pitch is set for noon.
Grand Rapids drops to the elimination bracket. Next they’ll face No. 7 Duluth Denfeld at Braun Park Saturday at noon.
