Esko boys basketball downs Moose Lake/Willow River to advance to Section 7AA title game
On Wednesday the top-seeded Esko boys basketball team defeated fourth seeded Moose Lake/Willow River 89-65 in the Section 7AA semifinals.
Esko advances to the Section 7AA championship game where they’ll face Pequot Lakes, who defeated Staples-Motley 67-43. These two programs have met in the last five straight section tournaments, with Pequot Lakes beating Esko in the last two section finals.
The title game is set for Friday at 6 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s (UMD) Romano Gym.
Also on Wednesday, the Section 7A final was set. In the semifinals, Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) defeated Carlton/Wrenshall 79-70, and Cherry downed Fond du Lac Ojibwe 114-55. MIB will battle Cherry in the Section 7A championship game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hibbing Memorial Arena.
The Section 7AAA championship will be No. 1 Hermantown battling No. 2 Chisago Lakes Thursday at 7 p.m. at Duluth Denfeld High School.
