Esko girls soccer’s historic state run comes to an end in the Class A semifinals
The No. 5 Esko girls soccer team saw their historic state tournament run come to an end Tuesday, when they fell 2-1 to undefeated No. 1 Southwest Christian (19-0-1) in the Class A semifinals at U.S. Bank Stadium. This marked the first-ever state semifinal final berth for Esko.

The first half ended scoreless. Then in the second half, Southwest Christian’s Maya Johnson broke onto the board with a goal in the 64th minute. 10 minutes later Johnson would double their lead to 2-0 scoring her second for the Stars. In the 79th minute Esko avoided the shutout as Reese Kuklinski put one in the back of the net.
Esko (13-4-1) will now play for third place Wednesday. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at the West St. Paul Regional Athletics Center. They will face No. 3 St. Charles who fell to No. 2 Providence Academy 3-0 in their semifinal.
