Esko native, Gophers DB Koi Perich named national Freshman of the Week

National attention has finally come for Minnesota Gophers defensive back Koi Perich.

On Tuesday, the Esko native was named the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week. It’s decided by the Maxwell Award Committee.

On Saturday the true freshman recorded a career-high six tackles, had his first career forced fumble, and secured the Gophers’ 24-17 victory with his second career interception on USC’s final dive.

Perich was also named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll, presented to the Most Versatile Player in Major College Football.

Perich and the Gophers next take on UCLA Saturday at 8 p.m.
