First state spots spoken for at Day 1 of Section 7AA track & field meet
The Minnesota State Track and Field meet is one week away. On Wednesday athletes would begin securing their spots in day one of the Section 7AA meet held at Cloquet High School.
The meet featured 12 prelim races, the 3200 finals, and field event finals.
Rock Ridge’s Jackson Kendall won the boys 3200 with a time of 9:37.47 to qualify, while Hibbing’s Jocelyn Strukel took second in the girls 3200 with a time of 11:20.33 to head to state.
In the boys pole vault Cloquet’s Aaron South would land in the top ten taking eighth place with an overall mark of 9-11.00, however Chisago Lakes would sweep that event. In boys shot put, Hibbing’s Aiden Shepard (52-04.00) and Cloquet’s Mason Sundquist (50-05.00) threw state qualifying tosses.
Chisago Lakes also won the girls high jump, but Grand Rapids’ Ginger Pogorelc placed second for a state berth with a combined score of 5-01.00. In girls discus Cloquet’s Ava Luiten qualified with a 113-05 toss, as did Grand Rapids’ Emma Thomsen with a throw of 99-03.00. In the girls long jump, Rock Ridge’s Allison Fink earned a second place qualifying mark of 16-01.00.
