Former Bulldog captain McAteer takes on WCHA commissioner position

Former UMD Bulldog Michelle McAteer has been named commissioner of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
McAteer has been at the heart of the UMD women’s hockey team as one of the core members of some of the original UMD women’s hockey teams, playing from 1999 to 2003. In her four years on the ice McAteer helped the Bulldogs earn three national titles.
McAteer then served as a graduate assistant at UMD from 2003 to 2005. Before taking on two seasons at Harvard and one at Vaughan in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.
She has spent the previous 14 seasons as the head women’s hockey coach at NCAA Division III Augsburg University in Minneapolis. Mcateer is only the sixth commissioner for the WCHA.
