The excitement for the upcoming Women’s Frozen Four can be felt on a different level for some youth girl’s hockey players, as they are getting a chance to see women on the level they hope to one day compete on.
They are role models, these girls are where these girls on the youth 15 team; I think want to get to. They want to be college hockey players, they want to be high school hockey players. You know, with the Gophers, Wisconsin, Northeastern, and Ohio State, here they are full of All-Americans, girls that have played at the highest level, “said Duluth Icebreakers 15U Head Coach Ryan Coole.
For the young players, Ordean Middle Schoolers Aaili Anttila and Sasha Coole, having this national event in the Northland opened their eyes to show more girls who may want or are interested in playing hockey that they can.
“I think it shows a lot to girls and influences more girls to come and play hockey. Well, I think it’s pretty cool, obviously.”
The 15U Duluth Icebreakers will look to make some magic of their own. They are headed off to the state tournament, and they’ll hit the ice in Stillwater starting Friday.
