Grand Rapids baseball, Cloquet softball open seasons with dominating wins
On Tuesday, Grand Rapids baseball and Cloquet softball took home big wins in their season openers, as Grand Rapids beat Superior 10-0, while Cloquet downed Duluth East 12-2.
For Grand Rapids, the defending Section 7AAA champions, they were able to work counts and make the most of Superior’s mistakes defensively to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The Thunderhawks offensive attack would continue, as they’d put up eight more runs before the 5th inning to enforce the mercy rule.
Grand Rapids next takes on Duluth Denfeld on Wednesday, while Superior faces Rock Ridge on Friday.
For Cloquet softball, a four home run game from the Lumberjacks was more than enough to power past Duluth East.
Blythe Proulx, Allie Jones, and Josie Lindstrom hit back-to-back-to-back home runs, and Proulx would end up hitting another, as the Cloquet bats looked to be in mid-season form already.
The Lumberjacks now turn to face Hibbing on Monday while Duluth East looks to bounce back against Northwestern on Wednesday.
