Grand Rapids baseball knocks down Duluth Denfeld in season opening matchup

Local news, sports, weather presented by the WDIO News Team

On Thursday, Grand Rapids boy’s baseball took to the diamond to battle Duluth Denfeld, who they toppled last season to punch their ticket to state. The Thunderhawks would take home the win once more, defeating the Hunters 2-1.

It wouldn’t be until the third inning before the scoring would begin. Grand Rapids up to bat, Oliver Spahn takes a shot out into right field, giving way for Caleb Gunderson to make it home and put the Thunderhawks on the board. A wild pitch gives Sam Dick the go-ahead to race to third, and with an overthrown shot to third, Dick races home.

Bottom of the third, and Hunter’s Chace Palmiotto sends the ball into left field, allowing Connor Hell to come home, bringing the score to 2-1 Thunderhawks.

Duluth Denfeld will return to battle Duluth Marshall on Friday, April 11th at 6:30PM, click here to view their full season schedule. Grand Rapids will return to battle Rock Ridge on Monday, April 14th at 4:30PM, click here to view their full season schedule.
