Northlanders shine in Wild Prospect Showcase practice

Northland stars are prepping to represent the Minnesota Wild in the fourth annual Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase. The Showcase begins this Friday, September 13 in Missouri, but practice was held Wednesday in St. Paul. Grand Rapids native Jack Peart is among the 27 invitees skating for the Wild.

“This camp’s an evaluation. All the camps moving forward are evaluations. So you want to get noticed, that’s how you move to the next level. But at the same time, your play during the year, I think speaks more than just these camps. There’s a whole, however many games coming up that are going to help me develop and grow into the player I will be,” Peart said.

Fellow Grand Rapids native Gavin Hain is also in the showcase. Hain, a University of North Dakota alum, was loaned to the AHL’s Iowa Wild last season where he recorded 10 points in 47 games. Peart joined him in Iowa upon finishing his season at St. Cloud State University, and recorded one goal and one assist in nine AHL games.

“All throughout my youth hockey I got to watch him play. In high school, when he won a state championship, I was at that game. So yeah, to be able to be on the same team as him right now and get to play with him, that’s really cool,” Peart said about Hain.

Also in St. Paul for showcase practice was former UMD captain Luke Loheit. He closed out his final year with the Bulldogs this winter, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists. Kody Dupuis, the son of former Wild player Pascal Dupuis, is an undrafted invitee at the showcase.

The Prospect Showcase runs Friday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 15 in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
