Hermantown's Max Plante selected by Detroit Red Wings in second round of NHL Draft

On Saturday, Hermantown native and University of Minnesota Duluth commit Max Plante got the call of a lifetime.

With the 47th overall pick, the Detroit Red Wings selected Plante.

Plante played last year with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, appearing in 51 games while picking up 61 points, with 46 assists and 15 goals.

Max becomes the third member of the Plante family to be drafted into the NHL after his father, Derek, was selected 161st overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1989 and enjoyed an eight year career, while Max’s brother, Zam, went 150th to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022. Zam is also a UMD commit.

Max Plante becomes the 6th Hermantown native to be selected in the NHL Draft since 2017.

Adam Kleber, another UMD Bulldog commit, was chosen 42nd overall by the Buffalo Sabres.
